Start a Fire
Leaves tossed in the shadows, she blows on rose petals, then plays the mallets and lights a fire with them after. Let the wood burn and her eyes glow. It takes so much time to practice let alone create even one piece for an entire showcase. Yet - when she stands up from hunching, all it takes is an open floor for her to start dancing. Give her space. Let her put on a scarf and button up. It’s cold out there, but she’ll be ready.
You’ll do good to keep busy in all the right ways and set everything else aside. No one likes a pretender. There’s a difference between performing and trying too hard. You don’t always need to know who you are to perform, but that’s how some people get hurt. There are miles of pain between a pulled effort and simply showing others what you’ve been doing. Did you start the fire or just flip a switch? Do you know how to keep the passions burning?
You’re so uniquely you and yet it’s easy to get lost in all the requests. It’s easy to forget when they’re playing all the wrong songs around you. In the end, only you know how fast or slow, if it’s major or minor. Only you can put the next notes down. Only you can invest in the theme of your life.
Tell me, when you close your eyes and visualize a perfect day - is it the one you’re in? It’s okay if it isn’t, but I genuinely believe you’re not as far from your goals as you may think. A couple changes… some sorting of socks, maybe throwing out the things that don’t matter anymore, possibly rearranging the clocks and learning how to start a fire.
All things are possible with the right motive, the right source and match. You haven’t failed even after you’ve gotten a little lost. Stop, don’t finish the wrong book, retrace your steps and find your way out. Toss the leaves in the shadows, blow on rose petals, play the mallets and then make a fire with the music you just wrote. Be a lion or a wolf or a falcon. Care for those around you and write the music that you can genuinely dance to.
