Who Are You Fighting to Become?
In the midst of life, there’s an invitation to find yourself in quiet, unseen places. It’s like a sweet taste of peppermint in chocolate tea, refreshingly sweet, slightly luxurious and brilliantly calming. Like finding lavender in a field of wildflowers. It’s awakening. You can’t help but touch it, and when you do, you feel good in your own skin. Like, you’re part of where you are now, you’ve discovered that in this beautiful place, you belong.
I love finding quiet moments. If it’s in the evening, I like to light a few candles, turn on the fireplace and start reading a good book. Or I pull out my journal and get some crafts going. These activities make me think about life in a big sort of way. I let myself dream and think about things I don’t normally consider.
These days when I’m alone, it’s about discovering more of who I am. I feel like these moments are defining. You can’t get them back once you’ve spent the time. When I realize no one is around, I consciously ask myself what I want to do. I don’t just assume I want to watch t.v. That tends to be my default, but watching t.v. is less and less of my preference these days.
I ask myself questions like:
How do I want to spend my time? (Because time is precious.)
What do I need right now? (Am I resting, processing, learning… zoning out.) What is important?
What does this time mean to me?
I kind of wish you here right now. We could actually talk about this, because I actually want to know:
Who are you when you’re alone? Who are you fighting to become? What does silence mean to you?
What do you do when you’re home and all is quiet? If you didn’t have a t.v. or the internet, how would you spend your time? If all you had was yourself and an invitation to be still, what would you do? Tell me, are you friends with the silence in your life, or is silence like the awkward elephant in the room that you try to avoid like a monkey that needs its diaper changed and it’s not even your monkey, so no thank you? (LOL - what?! Any ways-ah…)
I genuinely believe that when you embrace and take charge of the quiet moments, you can embrace even more of who you are and dare to become who you’re meant to be.
You can be more of an adventurer, an explorer, a treasure finder and path creator. You can be a constellation namer, and dream gatherer. You can be mystery and wonder wrapped up in all the quiet and silent moments of your life. You can be fierce because you chose to embrace who you are in the unseen places and then introduced yourself into the seen places.
That’s how it should be. Discover who you are when all is quiet and unseen and then bring that person into the light of day. Let that person see the stars and write all their wishes on a chalkboard. Let that person discover new theories and bring solutions to everyday issues that people accept, but don’t need to. Let that person bring a team together that can build awareness and make a difference in society. Let those people change the world because they got to know themselves and rediscovered their passion to live for more. Let those people inspire others to pursue truly being alive while you’re still living.
Who are you fighting to become when no one else is watching?
