Sit with Yourself

To the one who is having trouble sleeping, be gentle with yourself. It’s okay to feel a little winded and need some time to sit in silence. Give yourself time to process. Keep trying to drink more water and hold onto that routine. Even on those sleepless nights, close your eyes and rest your mind. Sometimes it’s easier to hide from the darkness, when in reality it can bring the best kind of peace and silence for you to sit with yourself.

Sit with yourself.
Be vulnerable.

Admit where you are and be real with yourself so that you can face whatever is bothering you. Start weaving some healing into your thoughts and patterns. Breathe deeper. Don’t just sit in the dry air of night with a whimper and a broken crown.

Sit with yourself and calm your mind.

Don’t be hard on yourself and don’t panic. Instead identify where the anxiety is coming from. Let yourself wander along the dark chasms of emotional response and stress ridden rhythms. Don’t chastise yourself for getting lost, but at some point try to find your way out.

Take tiny things to be thankful for and press them together. Like finger paintings that end up on the walls and floor. Get a little messy, but begin to gather the good stuff. Let day be day and night be night and fill each moment with deep breaths and your favorite lyrics to a song.

When you’re up and wide awake, let yourself dream and live a little more fully. Don’t worry. You’re not hopeless or doomed. Just don’t waste a moment. Find your signature and discover something small to enjoy. Let your fingers rest on familiar instruments and do what only you do best.

Don’t be afraid of the dark and don’t be afraid of yourself. Turn out the light and let the world be, while you rest and heal, muse and inspire.
